Use Gmail as an online storage place

Google is one of the major site that is prefered the most due to due to its security, interface, contacts recovery and much more. Gmail a email provider, run by Google provides about 7 GB of space online for storing our data secure and safe. But it is time consuming, as we have to login to our account and navigate to our stored place. What about having the gmail storage directly in our explorer. Here I have some great little
utilities that you can try to use your Gmail account space as your external hard drive. Download and install the software and enjoy your gmail storage.

1. Gmail Drive
GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Mail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium. GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you  an create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.

2. GSpace
GSpace is a firefox extension that turns your 3GB of your Gmail account into free online storage. With Gspace you can manage unlimited Gmail accounts to store all type of files within its simple, user friendly interface. You can also listen your favourite stored music directly from your Gspace, view your collections of pictures and manage your Gdrive files as well.

3. GmailFS
GmailFS or Gmail File System is a virtual file system developed by Richard Jones which allows users to mount and use their Gmail email account’s storage as a local disk drive. GmailFS is written for Linux, but Windows and Mac OS X ports do exist. Using GmailFS will provide the user with roughly three gigabytes of online storage. The speed of this filesystem is limited by the speed of the user’s Internet connection, and the upload/download speed of the Gmail server. Files can be any size, and are stored as (segmented) attachments.

Notepad is the default text editor in the Microsoft Windows OS. Many people prefer alternatives to notepad such as Notepad++, but did you know that notepad can do much more than just view and edit text ? Notepad is not only used for coding ppurpose but one can also enjoy having fun with it. I'll teach you how to do so.

1. Log Trick

Everyone wanted to make his/her own digital diary so that he can write his day experience. But do we know that this feature is inbuilt in Windows? Notepad can be used so.
  • Open Notepad
  • TYpe ".LOG"
  • Save it as LOG.txt

Now when you open notepad, the date and time will automatically be inserted. Write anything you want and the date and time is auto inserted. Your own Diary is ready!

2. Open a file using notepad

Here is a simple trick to open any file or program with notepad.

Open notepad and type the following:
Start path of file

Then save the file as Shortcut.bat
Please note that the file type should be kept as ALL FILES while saving it as a .bat file.

Change path of file with your actual file path. For example if you have a file called run with an extension .exe in the folder TEST in C:\ drive, then your path should be something like this: C:\TEST\run.exe

If you want to open some complicated programs such as Firefox, then use this code:
START /d “path of folder” program.extension

Change path of folder with the actual path of the folder, and put the name of the program with its extension. For example if you have a file called run with an extension of .exe in the folder TEST in C:\ drive, then your code should be something like this: START /d “C:\TEST” run.exe

In 1998 Brin and Page took the weekend off to go the Burning Man festival in Nevada. The Burning Man doodle (shown above), was designed by the Google guys and added to the homepage to let their users know they were out of office and couldn’t fix technical issues like a server crash.

Check Antivirus Strength

Most of us think of best antivirus. But sometime the assumed best antiviruses do not work accordingly. And now it become our duty to check the strength of the antivirus to make sure that our antivirus program is powerful and working well. The test that I am going to tell  you is know as  EICAR test which can be used to test any antivirus and was developed by European Institute of Computer Antivirus Research (EICAR). If your antivirus quickly detects and deletes it, then your antivirus is working well.

Step:

1. First of all open a notepad and copy the following code into the notepad and save it as anything.com. (You can give any name but remember to give the extension of .com only)

Code:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Are you tired of downloads displaying in a separate window when using Firefox? Then say goodbye to that extra window and shift it over to a tab with the Downloads in Tab extension.

Here are the options for the extension. You can switch it back over to the separate window when needed and control how your shiny new downloads tab works. Very nice.

Note: Works with Firefox 2.0 – 4.2a1pre.
